I'm sitting at my computer, design thoughts racing through my brain, and wonder, "What on earth should my first post be about?"
Do I want to explore the latest design trend, a great sale on lighting, or introduce ME, my tastes, my style? I think I'll go with the latter.
I've loved everything about home for as long as I can remember. My mom was constantly rearranging furniture, she gave us license to change our bedrooms around whenever we felt like it, she really made our home feel like a home (decorating for every holiday, and I mean every one). My dad had a penchant for antiques and Architectural Digest (one of the many design magazines I subscribe to today). I started watching Martha Stewart in middle school, design shows in college, only after which, when my life was so decidedly not creative (working in finance), I realized I needed something else to feel like I was alive. I started looking into all sorts of design classes to fill the creativity "hole", then finally started with a Lighting in Design class at NYU. I was hooked. I followed it up with 8 more classes that allowed me to explore design and what my tastes really were. I would drag my then-boyfriend to designer show houses, design exhibitions, you name it. He must have enjoyed it a little, we're now married with two kids!
Now that we're settled in CA, my latest design endeavor is Sofia's Sabbatical. I'm so excited to share my take on design with everyone out there.
To introduce you to my style, I thought I'd share a few pics of what I've got around my house; the good, the bad and the not-so-ugly.
As a rule, I typically hate indoor plants, until the Ficus Pandurata (last pic in the gallery)! I found mine at Ikea, of all places, but they sell them at Home Depot and most likely your local nursery.
There it is, my first post. Thanks for reading and I hope you come back for more!
